Marriage of Chinese and Western design features.
Church General Hospital at Wuchang, Hubei, 1916. Designed by Harry Hussey for the American Church Mission (also known as the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the U.S.A.).
Entrances, waiting rooms and dispensary in the foreground were housed in extremely, simple, single-story buildings with Chinese tiled, flush-gable, roofs in a style reminiscent of rural Chinese adobe buildings. The hospital proper was essentially Western in appearance, suggestive of the neo-classical style common in America at the time.
