John Kenneth Mackenzie’s LMS Hospital at Tianjin, Shandong, 1879*

Mackenzie, a prolific contributor to the debate on hospital design, recommended that mission doctors “should bring his western ideas as much in line with Chinese feeling as possible without sacrificing efficiency.” His own hospital at Tianjin was “erected in the best Chinese architecture [with] an extremely picturesque and attractive appearance” See pp. 62-3.
